I went on a Little Foodie Break, a food bloggers’ day trip to Lille, France in August 2009. It was organised by We Are Social as part of the Eurostar Little Break, Big Difference campaign, to show what a big difference a little break can make.
It was an extremely long but fun and food-packed day. We sampled a non-stop flow of chocolates, cakes, macarons, cheese and beer and that was on top of a three course meal that we prepared under the guidance of a patient chef at L’atelier des Chefs. Souvenirs from that day included the famous waffles from tea room and restaurant Meert, an extremely stinky cheese that just could not be contained by countless protective bags, and many bottles of beer from an artisan producer.
It was a perfect introduction to Lille and I’m certainly planning to return one day, as my cousin and her family have recently moved there from Beijing. This Short Hop is a good example of how much can be packed into a day, with some planning. Of course not everyone likes to travel in quite such a hectic fashion, but I enjoy making the most of the little time I have to explore a city.
Here’s the video from that memorable day, taken by We Are Social.
